Ventotene, Ischia and Procida

The Roman harbour on Ventotene

We sailed from Ponza to Ventotene- it’s an easy 22nm. Coming from the north side you are confronted with high cliffs and once you sail around the south side there is a tiny village with an equally tiny Roman harbour.

The village of Ventotene facing south to catch the sun. Plus it’s the ‘low’ side of the island with a natural harbour

Then into Ischia which we can see in the distance. An 800m high volcano sitting at the edge of the Bay of Naples. It’s very green and lush and villages down at water level in the north and east.

Castello D’Ischia sits high on the point. An Aragonese castle – you can stay here at the very top in the Monastery. Luckily if you are a guest you get to use the lift. The climb up is invigorating 😄
Beautiful gardens, orchard and vegetables all growing in immaculate grounds. The way this oleander is held back and trimmed makes for an easy arbour

We are meeting interesting people with stories that reflect the past two years. they also are on their boats, some very long term with no plans to head back to their old way of life. Most are new to sailing and have jumped in feet first. We are amazed and think them very brave.

Insalata di limone da Procida.
Delicious soft thinly sliced lemon with mint oil dressing and chili
Lunch today. Roast vegetable ricotta hotcake cooked in the frypan and turned out so you see the caramelised bottom.

I’m sure the stories people have to tell are varied and so interesting and I look forward to hearing about some of them when you return. Keep the food pics coming too so I can live vicariously through your meals! XX
