It’s time to changeover guests again. Alex is flying off to Formentera and Rob and Andrew are arriving from London.

In our visits to these towns we met a great Taxi Driver – Natale – and he has been ferrying everyone to and from the airports safely.

The plan is to head out to Favignana and Levanzo again. The weather is divine. It’s about 28 degrees and there is always a breeze blowing. The water temperature is probably about 24 and staying cool is no problem.

We hired electric bikes to show Rob and Andrew all the different beaches and grottoes around Favignana. Such a fun and easy way to get around. Drivers here are super bike sensitive- the bike always gets right of way and most people are on bikes.

Andrew and Rob have been getting used to the ‘island style’ of life which is “relaxed”. We are having difficulty getting Andrew’s mealtimes in sync with Italian Summer time but no problems with siesta!

One late afternoon we hired this Electric car – a Citroën Méhari- absolutely fabulous and in exploring a few different roads we saw Il Giardino Dell’Impossibile.

An amazing garden planted in the quarries made by the tufi miners. The limestone here has been quarried and sent all over Sicily and Italy. The result is deep pits which have been utilised for gardens – away from the wind and cool and shady. It is unique.

The weather has been perfect for no sailing. Very light breezes. We went across the channel to Levanzo. It’s 4 miles away- clearly visible, much smaller and taller than Favignana. A little settlement pushed into the south face. Such clear water.

Favignana though has a safe harbour for anchoring, particularly at night. Back we went and then got treated to a spectacular lunar eclipse and blood moon.

700 m above Trapani sits Erice – a Saracen town with a Castle and 80 churches! It is tiny and dates back to 400 AD. everything is stone or marble. Marble streets which are slippery, you have to be so careful as the streets are steep. The castle floats off the edge of the cliff and there are views in every direction. It’s much cooler and completely different vegetation. A cable car takes you up there from Trapani.

We love Trapani- it has history and diversity, the islands are so close and it would seem that it is not on the tourist radar – yet!
