Favignana and the Egadi Islands

We are out on the western point of Sicily now and the weather is being very kind to us. Winds are taking us in the direction we want to go. That can be unusual – a lot of times you find the wind against the plans.

Favignana is the lowest and longest of the 3 Egadi islands. And the most popular as it has beautiful swimming spots, some beaches, a great harbour and a humming town centre.

It reminds us of Rottnest – everyone is in holiday mode.

We had a fun day hiring electric bikes and scooting around the island discovering the water holes and finally Lido Burrone which was the most popular.

We then spent two days in Trapani – as with all these towns – there is an historic centre – Centro storico- which is full of grand buildings, bars and cafes, generally they are car free and walking through them is a treat.

We have now sailed further around the coast to Castellammare del Golfo. A huge gulf surrounded by mountains. It is stunning and the landscape is giant.

The town of Castellammare del Golfo is an Arabic town and quite unexpected in its beauty. A large Saracen fort dominates the water front and the houses are slotted in up the ravine. Great views to the mountains and water from the terraces. It’s gorgeous and obviously very popular.
