Hercveg Novi

We decided to try out the Public Transport. The Blue Line Autobus travels around the shoreline stopping about every 300 metres or wherever someone waves it down it seems.

We wanted to go to Hercveg Novi. It is a large town at the head of the bay. Customs and Border Controls are there for travelling overland into Croatia. As the crow flies, it’s not far but by road you travel along the South side, take a car ferry at the narrowest part of the bay and then head west on the North side

Lepatane to Kalamenari – the Trajekt ( car ferry) free for pedestrians.

Looking south west out to the Adriatic from the Fort.

The water polo complex.

There is a Fort on the hill, of course, and the Stari Grad – the old town. Then some newer riviera style hotels, loads of palms and bougainvillea. Very pretty. Really quiet – Sunday and almost everything is closed.

The dungeons in the fort were once a discotheque – perhaps it was called The Underground!

Then home to the marina – we took a taxi home – PT was running out on a Sunday evening.

This is us snuggled in besides some of the smaller Super Yachts

  1. It is sickening to view your pics waiting in Edinburgh station for 3 hrs.on a cool morning. An empty express has just left for Darlington; they wouldn’t let us on because our ticket says 1pm. Miserable Sods.Enjoy Yourselves Da

I completely agree with the above sentiment!

Except … as a child I used to spent summer holidays in Boka – staying for 3-4 weeks each summer in place called Bijela (literally means White). We would then hike a drive to Kamenari (translation – Rockies), catch the Trajekt (free for pedestrians) and cross to Lepetani. Every day at the same time a Coca-Cola truck with empty bottles was on the same trajekt – we would steal 4 bottles each and exchange them in Lepetani supermarket for the deposit and then buy … a bottle of Coke, of course!

On your way to Herceg Novi – did you manage to visit the old captain Stumbergers maritime museum in Baosic?
