This is one of our favourite anchorages and we are going to spend a couple of days here while we wait for wind to take us southwards. It’s so pleasant – very still water, no wind – perfect for swimming, yoga on deck and always little maintenance tasks. We are thoroughly enjoying the fact that our ‘to do’ list is almost completely ticked off. Everything is working well and sailing a real pleasure.
We stayed a couple of nights to catch up with a friend who was also staying here. Porto Rotondo is part of the Costa Smeralda and was developed 40+ years ago by the Aga Khan’s consortium. High end shopping and dining and also excellent chandlery and yacht services. They were able to go up the mast for us and check our wind vane which had been playing up. We corrected our reefing lines too – most fortuitous as we needed them the next day 😬
We sailed to La Caletta – Posada after a couple of quiet days. A Sou- Easter 12 to 16 knots. Very happy the reefing lines are correctly threaded and we needed that first reef in. We made good time and enjoyed sailing along with 2 other yachts. Going into the marina was a welcome relief as the wind continued to rise to 25 knots. We will stay a couple of nights and let the wind die down.
La Caletta is a small port – fishing trawlers, small boats, a marina, sailing school. It’s obviously a popular holiday destination. San Giovanni is an even smaller beachside village. Great houses waiting for owners to arrive and throw open the windows. Long white beaches here and kite surfers.
We rented two electric mountain bikes for the day and headed off up to Posada which is a small village up on the hill with a castle on top. Unfortunately the castle is closed due to unsafe conditions but we were able to walk around the very small laneways.
