We are continuing our sail home to Rome – with a stop at Civitavecchia just north of Rome. It’s a huge port – in a way the port for Rome where cruise ships and ferries dock. It’s not particularly attractive, industrial with power stations on the shoreline. Where there can be great beauty in Italy it has its fair share of ugliness – mostly current day infrastructure.

Back into the Tiber and we land at the Blue Dolphin – home.
And then the story starts to change. By late afternoon our time we had received phone calls alerting us that Roger’s mum – Wanda- had fallen and broken her femur bone and was waiting on surgery. She is 95.
So quickly everything had to change. New flights to be found home, fast track cleaning up our on board life and preparing Marley to be lifted out of the water.
Friday saw us on a flight through to Melbourne and by Sunday morning we could see Wanda who was just hanging in there – somehow.
4 weeks on and the shifts kept coming and gradually the period of chaos is completing Wanda is still with us – we’ve moved house – again and it’s wonderful to be back in Melbourne
And of course planning has started for next year’s adventure 😄

Arrivederci Italia – ci vediamo l’anno prossimo
