Cagliari and Southern Sardegnan Coast

Spiaggia di Tueredda

From Capo Carbonara we crossed over to the western side of the bay of Cagliari. The harbour of Cagliari is huge- the largest and busiest port in Europe. Not surprising given its central position. And even though it is a large port, the outer edges remain untouched. Very few villages or houses and national parks and marine reserves dominate. It is a huge spectacular landscape. There are some very good anchorages along this coast that offer turquoise water and wind and swell protection.

Early morning stillness in Tueredda
The Beach club at Tueredda- morning croissant or dinner at night. They do it all – hard working, long days for these guys. It’s very popular.
Spiaggia Zafferano- this is a long white beach. Actually a military zone that allows anchoring in July and August but no landing on shore.
Sparkling clear water typical of these bays.

It’s time to head into Cagliari. Chris is flying back to the UK and we are staying at Portus Karalus – a marina right in the bottom of town on the Corso.

We get to do some ‘work’, boat maintenance etc with access to chandleries –
Roger’s favourite shop!
The Bastione on top of the hill in Cagliari. Like nearly all of these ports they are positioned high – fortresses- always on the lookout for invaders.
Cagliari from the water. The Bastione and Duomo high on the hill. It’s a beautiful city, very modern in its antique state. Most enjoyable.
Lovely streetscapes with colourful buildings, cafes and shops, and culturally diverse.
