Elba, Giglio,Roma and Home

The weather is about to change and we have a couple of ‘stormy’ days ahead. Decisions? To stay on Corsica or hotfoot it up to Elba where the weather is better.

Sailing is planning, plans A B and C and if necessary even more.

Rog is constantly checking ‘Windy’ a worldwide weather app which gives incredibly accurate information.

He says he’s on Windy but earphones?!

So it’s a long day to Elba. It started off okay but by mid afternoon we were all looking forward to getting in somewhere quiet. The storm is following us and probably tomorrow is going to be unsettled too.

We are heading for Marciana Marina on the North Western tip of Elba. We have booked a berth in their Marina and need to get in by 7.30pm. We are just going to make it.

And it is a lovely village with Poggia and Marciana sitting high in the hill behind.

As the next day is predictably unsettled we rent a car and do some road tripping around Elba.

It is a green island with little coves appearing in between cliff edges. White beaches, small hotels, gelati and pizza and umbrellas on the beach.

Umbrellas and seats are closed today

Next stop Portoferraio and then onto the eastern coast Porto Azzurro.

Finally back to Rome. Another shocker of a day but better to be making our way than sitting in uncomfortable seas.

The storms were unbelievable and got considerably worse as the afternoon progressed. We watched what looked like mini tornadoes build up off the water, purple skies and fierce winds.

Getting into the Tiber was made more difficult by pelting rain and zero visibility. We rolled the waves through the channel markers and 50 metres later we were in the river where no storm was apparent.

Our last night on Marley 2. Tomorrow we wash, clean , dry and head into Rome.

Marley will be lifted out of the water and go into the hard until next year. Can’t wait 😃

We have had a wonderful time. It’s gone so quickly, we’ve seen many places and this is just the tip of what’s out there. Marley 2 is fantastic and we have so enjoyed all the sailing- she’s so comfortable and capable – we feel very lucky.
