Heading South East

Andrew has found a ‘bench’friend in Favignana

Rob and Andrew headed off for London via the “Scenic Route” and explored nearly all modes of Public Transport.

Taxi to the bus, taxi to the train, train to the city, taxi to the airport! They got to see more of Sicily in one day than anyone and all from a comfortable seat.

Rog and I set sail for Mazarro Del Vallo. It was a perfect afternoon with 10 knots of wind and we had a 4 hour sail to our next Port.

We are here!

We had stopped here on our way up to the Islands and it was easy to berth here. You get to know the harbours, the jetties where we tie up and it was a short walk to the Casbah. Arabic food for dinner for a change. The town is multi denominational with Cathedrals, Mosques and Synagogues.

The next day we made a dawn start and headed for Agrigento or the Port of San Leone.

We saw many fishing boats being followed by pods of dolphins. Much cavorting – it is always thrilling to see them. We have been treated to many displays. Rob had one swim right up under her as she sat at the prow.

Our main reason for staying in San Leone again was to visit the Art town of Favara.

The road up to the Farm

The Farm Cultural Park opened in 2010 when Andrea Bartoli and his partner Florinda Saieva bought several of the buildings in the old town and converted them to art and installation spaces, cafes and bars, accomodation and courtyard gardens.

The “old town’ dates back to 1000AD and the spaces and laneways are crammed with graffiti and sculpture.

It has obviously had a huge impact on the town with many associated businesses opening up. The result is vibrant, exciting and innovative.

A wonderful idea that generates much life.
