We made our way up the coast 50 nm (nautical miles) – it took nearly 8 hours and what started as a lovely day degenerated to strong winds and swell. But we were nearly there so not too hard.
San Leone is at the beach and Agrigento is on the hills behind – about 300 m up. In between is the Valley of the Temples which is extraordinary.

It is the site of Akragas- 500BC – and the temples still standing unique. It covers 1200 hectares of olive, almond and fruit groves. Quite beautiful. The road to Agrigento goes up through the middle.
It was a perfect day for lots of walking. Roger had a disaster with his shoes as they decided to part with their soles.
Elastic bands and glue worked for 5 minutes, then he just took to sole off completely and somehow they lasted 13 km. They can be repaired I’m sure.

Sperry’s last the distance

New shoes in the meantime. (Sorry about the toe shot! )
Some of the landscaping is spectacular.

The old town of Agrigento is a maze of steep steps, winding alleyways and huge architectural gestures by the Church. All very impressive.
The entrance to the Pirandello Theatre

That’s all for now – I’m putting my feet up! 🙂
