A Day In Palermo

We are safely moored in Marina Nettuno in Milazzo as last night the sirocco began. Huge thunder and lightning, flooding rain and gale force winds. The weather will be unsettled for 2 or 3 days so we decided to take the train up to Palermo for the day.
It's a 2 hour scenic journey along the north Sicilian coastline – very pretty.
Then into the huge city of Palermo, quite a contrast to the small villages we have been visiting.
But, what a wonderful place! We stayed within the confines of the old town. It is full of the most magnificent buildings.
Opera House, Theatres and a church/ cathedral on every corner.
An incredible mix of people still reflecting the vast and varied history of this place.

Graffiti Sicilian style

The Theatre Massimus – what a wonderful Opera House. We definitely need to time a visit with an event here.

The Cathedral Di Palermo

And the chords Di SAN Giovanni Di Eremiti

And of course the street markets – the Victoria and Ballaro St – fabulous, diverse, local and fresh.

Tomorrow we are expecting the weather to have cleared and we are sailing for Taormina.

Bye for now
