Zoom zoom to Taormina

Goodbye to Puglia and now we hit the road for some serious autostrade driving.

529 kms across Italy. Actually there is no easy route through. Our host explains it like this ‘ Italy is all north south’ and it’s true – but we are committed and Australian and 500 kms is nothing! Especially at 150km/hr. We headed north towards Naples and then got onto the calabrian autostrade with only a couple of hiccups.

we should be up on that toad – how yo get there??

north heading train

tunnels, tunnels snd more tunnels

and bridges

we need to find some food soon or it will get ugly!

and we are here

It still did take 6 hours even at 150. From Reggio Calabria we dropped off the car and took the ferry across to Messina and then the train to Taormina. The gods were looking after us and we stepped gracefully from one mode of transport to another – lucky! Everyone’s mood was beginning to full and hanger was setting in for some.

But when you arrive it is all worth it and the day falls away as you step out into a beautiful terrace on a warm Sicilian night and an hour later you are up and at’em for a drink and dinner.
