Lazy, hazy days of summer and Ostrog monastery

We have been whiling away these hot days, anchoring in bays, reading and swimming.

Our activity levels have dropped significantly. It is warm – 32 or more and the water around 25. It is really nice about 7.30pm when the sun finally leaves and everyone comes out for a walk.

Swimming and playing in the water is a big pastime. The shores are lined with sun beds and umbrellas for hire and by 2pm they are packed.

The Coatian headland and the mouth of the bay

Mamula – on the opposite point – Montenegro.

This lies in the opening to the Bay. Mamula – beautiful now – covered in aloe and gymea lilies – a huge plant pot. But it was an Italian POW prison in WWII.

Then today – Friday – we are upping our activity levels and going to the Ostrog Monastery in the mountains.

It’s a significant site for Christians. Bishop Basil established the monastery in 1651. His life had been devoted and a cave he found in the mountains and the Monastery he constructed – with help.

It’s quite a climb up there – you are literally on top of the world and the views down the valley are amazing.

As we left the bay these were the views taking the road north east

Here you can see the channel that brings you right into the Bay of Kotor and right out the back is the Adriatic Sea
