Paxos

Today is Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday were spent negotiating with Customs and Immigration or rather , Helen – she is an Agent for such matters – she dealt with the Authorities while we hung in the doorways.

It seemed that we had not complied with Transit Log regulations but the problem is – no one does. There are so many new directives that it is impossible to get it right. And all we wanted to do was check out of Greece. There were hints of fines and other monies that might need to be paid – were we okay with that she asked? Do we have a choice! Was our response.

And then in a flurry it was done , stamped , now go – so we did.

Through the channel and north to Paxos. Halfway to Corfu.

Paxos is a really nice island. Lots of Europeans seem to live here for summer but the island feels unspoilt. The little ports are tourist havens but up into the hills it is all stone villas and lots of olives. Their olive oil is famous.

We have taken the local bus today as it is a grey day and a bit chilly, dare I say. Very funny on the bus – a huge bus, tiny lanes. At one point we were running over the mooring rings on the quay and the chance of toppling into the water seemed high.
