But before we arrived in Verona we stopped to have lunch with some friends of Brenda and Richard’s at their home near Parma.
Franca and Federico treated us to a delicious lunch with loads of sausage and ham – meat lovers delight.
Franca’s family have this holiday villa high on the hill overlooking the valley to Parma.

Then onto Verona stuffed full. We flew down the autostrade and into the old town at Verona. Managed the one way system and parked outside the door of our hotel. Gorgeous.
Castelvecchio is a museum in the old castle. The architect – Carlo Scarpa.
Then onto more architecture of Palladio , we visited Villa Rotunda and the centre of Vicenza and the Brion tomb near Treviso designed by Carlo Scarpa.
And finally we drove onto Venice. We are staying in an apartment on the island – Guidecca – which lies across the eastern edge of the lagoon.
The next few days are Biennale.

The veneto meats are marvelous…..also there are a lot of villas …..Jane has spied many …and it’s great to get a dose of Scarpa and Paladio on the way
