Delphi

The wind has disappeared and the sun is out. This is the first clear day we’ve had for a while. Even the locals are questioning the weather.
10am the local bus leaves Galaxidhi for Delphi. It’s about a 45 minute trip up into the mountains.
The views are spectacular looking back over the valley and the Gulf. Hairpin bends and a narrow road but the bus driver handles it all. Tiny villages appear and the bus just fits through.
There is a viaduct running through the hillside and springs feeding it. The valley looks fertile and crammed with olive trees.
The archeological site of Delphi is great with a new museum and then walk through into the site. French archeologists began work there 130 years ago and you can imagine their excitement when whole statues were uncovered in the dirt. A large stadium – athletics – is at the very top of the site as well as temples, treasuries and an amphitheater.
