We left Poros this morning. It was great to get some laundry done and Rog needed to top up his phone – again!
The hustle and bustle of cars and bikes so noticeable after the quiet of the smaller islands.
We decided to sail up the coast. The hills are covered in olive trees and cyprus – and an occasional villa in there too.
We got to use the spinnaker and were positively zooming along with just that sail.
Palaia Epidhavros has the oldest and most intact amphitheatre. It seats 14,000 people and is used in July and August for the Greek Festival. It would be amazing to see it in full flight.
As it turned out as we took our seats to take in the view a young girl stepped into the arena and sang. So I got to hear my little bit of classical music after all.
The grounds around the theatre were full of archeological digs. They have uncovered an ancient healing centre complete with several temples, a gymnasium and a hospital. Extensive restoration work is going on amidst the forest of pines and olives. A very peaceful place.
